voka.total is an annual a cappella competition held in Graz, Austria, that attracts groups from around the world.

2011 is the festival's 12th year, complete with big name judges and participants, 6,000 Euros in prize money, invites to perform at the Taiwan Choral Center, and high-end microphones courtesy of AKG. The competition is for Jazz, Classical, and Pop Ensembles, but there is a new category this year titled "Emperor of the Mic" – a beatboxing battle held on the first night of the festival. This competition will be held July 25th – 27th , with the winners concert in Dom im Berg on the 28th.[1]

[edit] Competition

The International A Cappella Competition, part of vokal.total.2011, will take place for the 12th time. Vocal ensembles from all over the world are invited to participate in this competition. Ensembles enrol on the competition, a final decision on participation will be made by the organizing committee.

The competition consists of three categories:

  • A Cappella Jazz Ensemble
  • A Cappella Pop Ensemble
  • Classical Vocal Ensemble

These three categories will be completed by the "Emperor Of Mic" Beatboxing Battle for beatboxers from all over the world. This new contest will not be publicly advertised, participants will receive an invitation from the organizers.

The first three prize winners in each category will be awarded the Ward Swingle Award (1st - 3rd prize). Prize money for every 1st prize is 1,500 Euros and high-end microphones. Additionally, all participating ensembles will receive a diploma in gold, silver or bronze, according to their performances.
